13th-Ranked Devils Post School Record 13th Shutout
(Chestertown, Md.) - The Dickinson College women's soccer team closed out the regular season with a 2-0 win at Washington College on Saturday. The Red Devils, ranked 13th in the latest NSCAA National Poll, set a school record with their 13th shutout of the season. That replaces the mark of 12 set in 2005.
The Red Devils scored once in each half, netting the first in the 38th minute. First-year Samantha Friday (Southborough, Mass./Algonquin Regional) put the Devils on the board, finishing a rebound save off a shot from classmate Chelsey Laughinghouse (New London, N.H./Kearsarge Regional).
The Devils added an insurance goal just 1:53 into the second half. Genevieve Olson (Quincy, Mass./Thayer Academy) collected a pass from Olivia Licata (Upper Saddle River, N.J./Northern Highlands) in transition and had an open run to the goal to stretch the lead to 2-0.
The Red Devils held Washington to just eight shots, including five on goal. Sophomore goalkeeper Annie Weichert (Chatham, N.J./Chatham) made five saves to record her ninth shutout of the season.
Dickinson held an 18-8 advantage in shots as Tori Ripple stopped 11 shots in goal for the Shorewomen.
The Red Devils improve to 14-2-1 overall and 9-1 in the Centennial Conference. They will host the conference championship next weekend at Dickinson Park.
