Diplomats Put Devils on Playoff Bubble With 1-0 Win
(Lancaster, Pa.) - The Dickinson College women's soccer team suffered a 1-0 loss at Franklin & Marshall on Sunday afternoon. The win keeps the playoff hopes alive for the Diplomats while pulling the Red Devils onto the bubble. The Devils need a Haverford win over Swarthmore while F&M will settle for a tie or a Swarthmore win to take Dickinson's spot in the tourney.
The game was about as even as it could be with back and forth play in the midfield. Strong play by both teams kept scoring opportunities to a minimum as each team recorded just seven shots on the afternoon. Only four made it on net with the Diplomats putting one across in the 78th minute for the win.
Spencer Plante broke through the defense and placed a shot into the bottom of the net. The win improves F&M to 8-6-1 overall and 6-4 in the Centennial Conference. The Red Devils slip to 10-5-1 and 6-4 as well.
Amanda McGowan made two saves in goal for the Diplomats. Junior Annie Weichert (Chatham, N.J./Chatham) made one save for the Devils.
Haverford and Swarthmore square-off on Monday evening at 5:00 pm.
