(Grantham, Pa.) – The Dickinson women's soccer team suffered a 2-0 loss at #3-ranked Messiah College on Tuesday night.

The Falcons struck early, capitalizing on a penalty kick in the seventh minute of the match. Alicia Frey converted the try to give the hosts a 1-0 lead.

Messiah opened an 8-1 shot advantage before a late surge made the total, 8-4, at halftime. The Falcons held a 6-2 edge in corners in the opening period. Senior Annie Weichert (Chatham, N.J./Chatham) made a save off the head of Frey in the 22nd minute.

The Falcons scored quickly again to open the second half. Rachel Sheibeler received a feed from Alex Brandt and placed a shot in the left side of the net. Messiah once again fired off the first eight shots of the half.

The Falcons continued to press as Mackenzie Klapper hit a shot off the crossbar and Holly Burgard collected the rebound but Weichert was there to make the save.

Messiah finished with 21 shots on the night. The Red Devils made a late rush with senior Marissa Kunkle (Perkasie, Pa./Pennridge) ripped a shot off the crossbar and Hannah Richardson (Chevy Chase, Md./Bethesda-Chevy Chase) struck the rebound, but it was saved by Audra Larson, her second of the night.

Weichert recorded three saves as just five of Messiah's shots were on net for the match. The Falcons forced 13 corners and allowed just three as they improve to 7-1-1 overall.

The Red Devils slip to 6-2 on the season. They return to Centennial Conference action on Saturday hosting Muhlenberg College on homecoming weekend. That match has been rescheduled to 5:00 pm in the Biddle Field Stadium. The game will follow the Franklin & Marshall vs. Dickinson football game, kicking off at 1:00 pm.
