Licata Scored Twice as Red Devils Post 3-0 Win at Washington
(Chestertown, Md.) – Dickinson senior Olivia Licata (Upper Saddle River, N.J./Northern Highlands) scored twice as the Red Devil women's soccer team posted a 3-0 win at Washington College on Saturday.
The Red Devils took a 1-0 lead in the first half as senior Rosalin Savoie (Wilton, Conn./Wilton) put one in the back of net, scoring off her own rebound in the 19th minute.
Savoie added an assist in the 55th minute as Licata finished a cross from just inside the six-yard box. Senior Chelsea Johnson (Rose Valley, Pa./Strath Haven) also tallied an assist on the play, stretching the Red Devil lead to, 2-0.
Licata scored again, almost exactly four minutes later, beating her defender and putting a shot in the bottom, left corner of the net.
The Red Devils outshout Washington, 7-1, in the first half and held a 12-4 advantage for the match. They also held the Shorewomen to just two corners, while forcing five in their attacking end.
Sophomore goaltender Charlotte Armour (New Haven, Conn./Choate-Rosemary Hall) and first-year Deanna Ballard (Smithtown, N.Y./Monticello, Va.) shared the shutout. Ballard came on for the final 30 minutes, making a pair of saves while Armour faced no shots during her stint in the nets.
Melissa Barry made six saves in goal for the Shorewomen as they fall to 4-6-2 overall and 1-4 in Centennial Conference play.
The Red Devils improve to 6-5-2 overall and 2-2-2 in the conference. They return home to face #1-ranked Johns Hopkins University on Wednesday night. Opening kick-off is scheduled for 7:00 pm.
