Lamb Hat-Trick Leads Devils to 5-0 Win in Season Opener
(Carlisle, Pa.) – The Dickinson men's and women's soccer teams combined for 10 goals in a season opening doubleheader at Phyllis Joan Miller Memorial Field on a beautiful Friday evening. The Red Devil women blanked Susquehanna, 5-0, behind a natural hat-trick from sophomore Jenna Lamb (Fairfax, Va./Robinson Secondary).
Lamb struck early with assists from sophomore Erin Sutphen (Robbinsville, N.J./Robbinsville) and senior Rosalin Savoie (Wilton, Conn./Wilton). She finished an assist from Allie Young (New Canaan, Conn./St. Luke's) in the 10th minute to give Dickinson a 2-0 advantage at halftime.
The sophomore made it a natural hat-trick in the 58th minute as Sutphen and Young added assists on the play.
Senior Chelsea Johnson (Rose Valley, Pa./Strath Haven) put another goal on the board, finding the net in the 86th minute. Sophomore Bridget Corbran (Manasquan, N.J./Wall) closed out the scoring with a great goal, scoring off an assist from first-year Carolina Squerra (Scarsdale, N.Y./Edgemont), with just over three minutes remaining in the game.
Sophomore Hannah Matlack (Needham, Mass./Noble & Greenough) anchored a strong defensive effort in front of sophomore goalkeeper Charlotte Armour (New Haven, Conn./Choate Rosemary Hall). The Red Devil defense held the Crusaders to just three shots. First-year Deanna Ballard (Smithtown, N.Y./Monticello, Va.) came on for the final 16 minutes to secure the shutout.
Rachel Norbuts made nine saves in goal for Susquehanna (0-0).
The Red Devils (1-0) are home again on Sunday, hosting Saint Vincent College at 1:00 pm.
